Evie Harrington '19 Recruiting Profile

My love for volleyball began in second grade when I would pepper with my mom in our backyard. Ever since then, I have been actively involved in camps, school volleyball or club season. I can’t get enough!  Volleyball is my passion and each year I invest my time and energy into it, I see consistent and noticeable improvement. For example, I have spent time in one-on-one coaching sessions so that I can fine-tune my middle blocking and hitting techniques. This has helped me read the competitors’ setters better, be more strategic with offensive ball placement and confidently run more complex plays.. Another result of my investment is the improvement of my vertical. For my club season this year (Crossfire 16-1s out of MN), I increased my vertical 6.5” compared to the end of my previous club season. My goal over the next year is to increase my vertical another 3.5”.

Overall, I am extremely competitive and constantly strive to be the best version of myself. As it relates to academics, I continually challenge myself to achieve solid test scores and be an active participant in my classes each day. It is important for me to have a challenging college or university experience. I believe a well-rounded person strives to excel in academics, athletics and personal growth. I have recently joined Yearbook and look forward to expanding and honing my creative skills. Over the years, I have enjoyed competing in horseback riding and practiced weekly to improve my skills in the arena.

On the volleyball court, I am an excellent team player who encourages my teammates to play their best. If we get in a funk, I pump up my team to get the next point. If there are strategic ways I feel we can side out, I will share that with the team. Winning is important to me but I also realize that losing is part of playing the game. There are opportunities in each match to learn from the experience and better my play for the next match.
