Dear Future Coach,
I play for the Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club on the 18-1's team as a DS.
I've been an athlete since I was 4 years old, playing soccer, basketball, golf, track and volleyball. When I was 10 years old, I joined a YMCA volleyball team with a couple of friends. I was immediately hooked, and joined my first club team when I was 12 at the Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club in New Mexico (ARVC). I've been on national teams ever since and love to play at a very high competitive level. The team bonding, excitement and intensity of the competition at a national level is what I love most about the sport, not to mention WINNING! My team trains 5 days a week during club season so I spend a lot of time with my teammates, their families, and our coaches. We travel all over the country competing against the best teamsout there.
I've gained life skills as a teammate that I can't imagine learning anywhere else, and made lifelong friendships through volleyball. I've also been a team captain and discovered I am capable of being a leader and supporting my teammates not only on the court, but emotionally when things get tough. Being on a competitive team, I learned to manage stress with help from my family and teammates. I think my teammates would say that I am supportive, reliable and trustworthy. I know my coaches would describe me as coach-able, respectful, competitive, mentally strong, and humble. I have played OH, DS, and Libero and would be considered an all around player, but I can and will play whatever position a coach needs me to. I am looking for a coach and team that can bring out the very best in me.
My academic record will show that I currently carry about a 3.8 GPA. I am striving to be in the top 10 percent of my class before I graduate. I am bilingual and take several honors courses. I also keep in shape during the off season by running track in high school, where I've placed in a few state events. As you can see, I am a multi-tasker and keep a busy schedule.
I hope to earn a college scholarship with sports and academics so I may continue my volleyball career as long as possible. A university with a healthcare and/or business program would help me accomplish my career goals. Reaching these goals would be a tremendous payoff of the hard work and sacrifices me and my family have made all these years.
These are a few things that make me a unique student/athlete:
I am looking forward to meeting coaches who are interested in a dedicated student/athlete like me.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Alyssa D. Marquez, Class of 2018
