Volleyball has been part of my life growing up. It has helped shape who I am today. Through sports I have learned hard work, dedication, commitment and perseverance. As a setter I have learned you are in service to your team. You help your team shine and are in service to support each hitter and passer on the court. As aright side hitter I have learned that your team counts on you to protect them with a big block against the strong / outside hitter on the other side of the net. I feel these small learning pieces also relate to life. As a big sister I have learned to support my sister in everyway. As the oldest I have also learned my parents rely on me to set the good example, be responsible and help with all areas of the family. The family goals are similar to my volleyball family goals. Take care of each other, be a good person, always work hard and be a good role model. I love volleyball and I play every chance I get from pickup games at the high school to friends calling me to play sand.
I am different from other recruits academically. In upper elementary I was diagnosed with dyslexia. The skill of having to work hard transpired to everything I do. The dyslexia was something I had to overcome with new skills but it did build a fire in me to want to excel in my academics. Today I am proud of my high academic performance in high school. If you were to ask my Honors Biology Teacher what sets me apart from others in his class he would hands down tell you Nicole works harder than any of my other students. For sports if you asked my coaches what sets me apart from my team mates, They would say, Nicole wants the starting position, she shows up everyday and she is the girl when you need that final point or big block she delivers. Overall I thrive on feedback and hope to keep improving my skills. Finishing up my freshman year my goals are to go into my sophomore season strong. I am looking forward to College and hope to find the right fit where I can continue to play in the future.
