2016 Highlights Personal Statement
My name is Cassandra Bown and I am a middle blocker from Broadalbin, NY. I have been playing volleyball since 7th grade for both my school and club teams. A few seasons ago my team placed 3rd in NY State for Class C schools. Since then my team has been in Sectional finals, but sadly that is where our seasons have ended. My goal is to make it back to states this coming season! Last year I was lucky enough to represent the USAV IREVA National Team at the High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In addition to playing volleyball, I strive to get good grades in school. I have a GPA of 4.0 and I have been on the principles list every year since I started middle school. Between volleyball and school I don't have a great deal of free time, but when I do you can usually find me somewhere outdoors or with my friends. I love to go hiking, swimming, and in the winter I love to ski. I also spend a lot of time at the hospital/ nursing home where I volunteer as a candy striper. I also live with a family of runners (we are all members of the Hudson Mohawk Roadrunners Club), so I usually end up volunteering at a lot of races. As I am heading into my senior year, I am looking for a college with an exceptional biology program with opportunities for internships / research programs possibly leading to a job after college. - The 2017 HP Championships will be held at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL from July 18-22, 2017. The High Performance Championships is one of USA Volleyball’s flagship events. The 100+ team event features tournaments for both boys and girls that include teams from USA Volleyball Region HP teams, International teams and teams from the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline. Past International teams have included: Brazil, Chile, China, Dominican Republic, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, and Puerto Rico.

I also volunteer at many local events - a few examples being: The Just Run Program (3rd - 6th Graders) Track Meet (over 1000 kids from all the area schools), The Great Sacandaga Challenge Triathlon, and the Thanks4Giving race helping the Mother of Mercy Hospital of Nuba.
