Personal Statement
I am a senior at Monroe Woodbury High School, a fourth year varsity volleyball player and the team captain as well as a setter on Downstate Juniors Volleyball Club's 18 national team and team captain there also. I began playing volleyball officially at 12 and was captain of the 13U team and the starting setter for this team and the 15U team. I made junior varsity fall of my eighth grade year and was the starting setter and captain on the 15U team at Club Eclipse before being pulled up to the 16U team. After pursuing additional training and with encouragement from my family I made the varsity team as a freshman and the 16 Elite team at Club Eclipse continuing as the starting setter and captain. My hard work and determination paid off when I tried out and played on the GEVA High Performance Select Team competing at the Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the summer of 2019. In the Fall of 2019 I was the starting setter for my high school and on the All County Second team. I continued my club career at Eclipse where I was the starting setter for the 17 Elite team and again chosen as captain. I always strive to challenge myself and in the fall of 2020 tried out and played for the 17 National Team at Downstate while competing on Monroe Woodbury's Varsity team and being chosen for the All County First team in my junior and senior year.
None of this came easy. I didn't even start out a volleyball player. In fifth grade I played softball and my sister would help me practice in the driveway. In return I would help her practice volleyball as she is three years older and an outside hitter. Little did I know I was sharpening my skills and becoming a setter.
I look forward to playing volleyball in college and realize I not only have to be conditioned physically I also need to keep my grades up in order to achieve this goal. I have always been on the high honor roll and an academic scholar and continue to take advanced courses at school. I believe I am very well rounded and have participated in school band, drama club, chamber chorus and even volunteered at the Elementary school as a teachers aide.
I value the importance of giving back and if I have any spare time I try to volunteer at various charity functions or help my father at his firehouse. I look forward to seeing where college takes me.
