Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Kate Murphy and I am currently a Junior attending Dover High School out of New Hampshire. There are a few different things that truly make me who I am today and will continue to reflect my character as I grow and develop throughout my life. My family, my education, and volleyball  represent me as a person the most accurately. The passion I always have and the joy that all three of them bring me can prove my statement to be true.

I have a family of five, with a younger brother and an older sister who recently graduated form the University of New Hampshire, and a mom and a dad who have been by my side since day one. All of my family members, and friends as well, help me succeed at the things I enjoy most, particularly volleyball being the main thing they have helped me with, along with numerous amounts of everything else imaginable. From giving me the privilege to play for a club team, to not hesitating on the new apparel I may need for a team. It is easy to say that I am definitely not on this road to success by myself.

As I mentioned before, I am currently a Junior and the year has been a challenge academically. However, the three honors classes and one college prep class isn't something that I am not capable of achieving. Managing my team during school volleyball and school work was not an issue and ended my year with  a 4.2 GPA. I am completely aware that if I want to play at a competitive level college for volleyball, my academics are a very large factor. I am a stay-on-track student and person in general. I manage to help out friends and fellow students with school work, be a part of a National Honor Society, and go to all the volleyball events I can possibly attend. I don't expect anything through high school or college to be easy and I am eager to have each new obstacle thrown at me. I plan on continuing to work hard and diligently to get where I want to be in life and will not stop until I get there.

I started my volleyball career as a 7th grader and have continued playing ever since. I continued on to play club for NH Seacoast Volleyball on the 13 Open to the 18 Open team. I was one of  four Freshmen to make the Varsity team and started as a Libero.  The constant adrenaline and having a defined mind set of never letting the ball hit the floor improved my performance greatly. Being one of the underclassmen was not a struggle at any point in time, as I always respected the upperclassmen and the criticism they had to offer. I ended the season leading the team defensively with 167 digs and also received the Coach's Award which was a very memorable moment in my life.

With all of this being said, I feel that I could be put into any volleyball program with unfamiliar faces and connect with the people in an instant. I know I can make a positive impact at the college I will attend in my future. I know this because I will work to be the best I can, whether it is on the court playing or being with my teammates and coaches. I have different characteristics than other athletes and I am very determined to reach my goal in life. Not only am I capable of being a strong athlete and putting in tremendous amounts of work, but I am capable of being a great leader on a team as well. I am dedicated and committed to my dream of playing on a college team and will work my hardest throughout my entire volleyball career.

Thank you for your time,

Kate Murphy
