Personal Statement
My passion and drive for playing volleyball began as I grew up in a family who enjoys participating in sports. My father was a Division I athlete who played football and my two brothers participated in sports such as soccer, volleyball and track throughout high school. I competed in national gymnastic meets from 8-14 years old. During that time, I began playing volleyball at age 11. It was at age 14 that I decided to focus all of my time and energy on becoming the best volleyball player that I could be. Playing volleyball has taught me that being a leader means realizing what is best for the team and doing everything I can to achieve success.
Academically, I have attained a high grade point average and will continue to strive in order to create opportunities for college. Facing obstacles has made me a better player and person. Some obstacles that I have faced are changing positions and teams. My first position was a defensive specialist which I continued for two years. At age 13, I changed positions to setter, which I played for two years. At that point, I changed teams and became an outside hitter. Changing teams taught me to adapt to new coaching and teammates. The obstacles that I have faced while playing volleyball has given me a deeper knowledge of the game and made me a better player.
I am a hard-working, positive and encouraging teammate. I believe that every point in every game is vital. I look forward to striving for myself and my team as I pursue playing volleyball on the college level.
