Volleyball has been a big part of my life since I was 6 years old. It’s been my competitive outlet, my stress relief, my mental and physical challenge, my leadership opportunity, a big part of my social circle, and generally my happy place. I would love to continue to play volleyball competitively while I pursue my academic goals in college.
I have learned so much about myself playing volleyball. I realized that I am competitive but also that I like playing with a team, rather than as an individual. As a team, you struggle together but in the end, that makes the moment of victory so much better. Being able to celebrate with other girls who have worked and fought right along with you makes it really fun.
My skill and confidence in serve receive and defense have improved significantly with the opportunities I’ve been given this year to play as a 6 rotation outside hitter for both my high school and club teams. I’m also ambidextrous and am learning how to use that ability more on the court. I’ve always been a little quiet and more of a leader by example in how hard I work and how I treat my teammates, but this level of court presence has helped me find my voice and has given me the confidence in myself as a player to be the team leader that I’ve always wanted to be.
I”ve always enjoyed science classes and I visualize myself in the future wearing scrubs and tennis shoes to work and helping others every day. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do yet - maybe helping athletes with injury prevention/recovery, or maybe pediatrics or some area of youth development. I am a dedicated student with a strong work ethic, and I know whatever I decide I will pursue it with the same passion and drive that I apply to all areas of my life.
