Hi my name is Cierra Hernandez, I’m 5”2 and I have been a volleyball player since my 7th grade year. My main position is a setter but I’m a well-rounded player throughout every position. I’m a very kind hearted person, with a lively spirit but at the same time a straight forward individual. I’m a player that loves to win and when I don’t I make it a personal challenge not to accept defeat. If ever my team is down in a game, this only challenges me to rise to occasion and leading my team through my demonstration of a no quit attitude. During times like that I make sure I tell my players this is what we are going to run and execute because from experience I have learned that everyone wants guidance and motivation in a game. Even if we make mistake after mistake I tell my hitters no matter what to keep swinging but be smart, and our defense along with offense to keep communicating on the court. My team and I don’t win every set, and when we don’t I keep my head high and come back with a stronger attitude to dominate the next team. This type of attitude that I try to display to my teammates is contagious on the court and I see my teammates displaying the same leadership attributes while I am on the sidelines. When I am not in practice or in a tournament, I take the time to review team film and take note of the sustainments and improvements that the team can make. Every day when I step in the gym I want to improve my team, but also my own performance. Since I have been playing volleyball, so far my sophomore year has been the biggest transition as I transitioned from libero to a setter, I made the Junior Varsity team and assisted my team to becoming district champs. I have played for The San Antonio Abyss club team since 2013 and my first year playing I competed in my age group and that year we won several first place medals locally and throughout Texas. This past year I played with my club team and we traveled to Orlando Florida to compete in Nationals. My team and we placed 17th , and preparing for next year to be stronger. Coming into my senior year I will continue to enhance my grades and improve my skills I have to continue my volleyball career for college.
