My name is Sammy Holmer, and I am a junior at Lynnwood High School in Washington. I play starting outside hitter and defensive specialist on varsity and at my club, Seattle Juniors, and have been playing volleyball for about 7 years. When I first started playing, I had no idea volleyball would become such a big part of my life. The things I’ve learned from volleyball have helped me through life and vice versa. Communication and being able to work with others is key to leading a successful life and being successful on the court. Staying focused and believing in yourself is necessary to leading the life you want and playing the game you want.
A lot of my free time is spent playing volleyball, whether it’s playing in outdoor grass leagues, signing up for indoor quads tournaments, or playing for my high school and club. When I’m not on the court, you can find me reading a book, going on hikes, or watching movies with my family and friends. Sometimes I can be an introvert, but being with my team and sharing experiences and laughter has definitely helped me break out of my shell. I think it’s important to know who you are so you can live a balanced life, but also not be afraid to push yourself and take good risks. I work to keep this in mind with everything I do, and hope I can continue to apply it to volleyball even after high school. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me!
