I love the team aspect of volleyball and that everyone works on improving themselves to improve the team. I'm a supportive, encouraging teammate who feels a lot of joy when my teammates and I succeed. I'm also someone who can work through adversity and learn from the experience. In June, 2024, I broke my tibia, which derailed my summer development plans and made it so I couldn’t really play at the beginning of this high school season. That was really discouraging, but I worked hard to heal, regain my strength, and get back on the court. I don’t have a huge ego, and I’ve been told I’m a good “glue” player who helps raise the level of the whole team, both in the way I play and in the way I naturally build relationships and help diffuse drama. I am an accurate hitter; I don’t commit a lot of errors. My vertical jump is good. I am naturally athletic. I am very coachable and willing to work and adapt to help the team succeed. For example, mid-season this year, my coach realized that we were struggling against good Outside Hitters on opposing teams, so she moved me to play on the right side. She approached me about this this mid-match against Deer Park, who we had to beat to make it to the playoffs to qualify for State. I had never played or even practiced on the right side, and I was nervous, but I tried my best. Once I made the move, I could see why my coach wanted me there. Having a tall, athletic blocker and hitter go up against their Outsides really bothered them, and we ended up winning the match. From there, we exceeded expectations by beating other teams with better records and making it to the state tournament, where we only lost one match and took 5th place. Even though I was anxious about the move to the right side, and I enjoy playing Middle more, I stuck with the position for the rest of the season and worked to thrive there because that’s where my Coach and team needed me. Last year, I won the sportsmanship award for the way I approached things on my high school basketball team. While I enjoy basketball and other sports, I decided to just focus on volleyball this year because this is the sport I truly love, and I am determined to play at the college level.
