Personal Statement

Since I first stepped onto a court at age 12, volleyball has been my passion. I love the physical challenge, intensity, collaboration, and shared journey of individual growth. As a middle blocker, I thrive in the strategic and physical challenges that come with this position. My positive energy, tenacity, and communication skills make me a valuable team member. Off the court, I am interested in a liberal arts education, and plan to pursue a career as a physician-scientist.I am looking for a team where I can contribute on the court and grow as a player, and a school that offers high intellectual rigor, a broad range of strengths, and a vibrant, diverse student community.

I am currently a junior at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, where I have immersed myself in a demanding academic curriculum while excelling on the volleyball court and participating in a variety of other extracurricular interests. Being part of the varsity team for the past two years and serving as a team captain for my club and high school teams has enhanced my leadership and communication skills, as well as shown me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and resilience. I am driven by a profound desire for success in both volleyball and academics.I embrace hard work, thrive on being busy, and push through difficulty in pursuit of success in the things I am passionate about.

What sets me apart as a middle blocker is not only my physical strength and agility but also my strategic approach to the game. I pride myself on my consistency, technique, and court presence. Dubbed “Brenergy” by my school coach during sophomore year, this nickname has stuck and followed me into the other parts of my life, including my club volleyball team, my work as a lifeguard and swim teacher, and school leadership roles. It encapsulates who I am - the joyful energy, commitment and motivation I bring to every endeavor. I am goal-oriented, hard working, and determined to achieve success both on and off the court. My determination extends to being not only the hardest-working player on the court, but also the most positive and supportive teammate.

Academically, I am driven by a passion for learning, particularly in the sciences.  I am looking for an academically rigorous community with peers who are intellectually curious and engaged, and a deep, diverse array of course offerings to make the most of my learning opportunities.

My commitment to being both a top-performing athlete and student makes me confident that I can contribute positively to both the volleyball program and the academic community in college. With an open mind, a determination to excel, and an unwavering commitment to hard work, I am eager to contribute my unique strengths, my “Brenergy”, to your team and the university as a whole.
