Personal Statement
My name is Brenna Kenney. I am currently a senior at Steele Canyon High School with a weighted GPA of 4.26. I am ranked 82 out of 510 people in my class. My water polo experience has dated back to 6th grade where I started to play for a club called RSD with Paige Small and currently play at a club called Costa Del Sur, where the head coach is Ernie Medina. I have recently been selected for the PSW zone team for ODP. I am a three year high school varsity water polo starter, as well as the current offensive team captain. My current times for my swims are: 1:01.57 for the 100 yard free, :28 for my 50 yard. During my junior season, I scored 42 goals in total and got offensive player of the year, playing the 1/2 side as a driver and trailer. I am also currently the boys novice assistant coach!
Outside of water polo, I have supported my high school on the volleyball and swim teams, making me a tri-sport athlete. In addition, I am part of Steele Canyon’s Cougar Crew, which are leaders chosen by faculty staff to represent the school at various on and off campus activities such as “Toys for Tots”, “Fill the Boot”, freshman orientation, back to school night, etc. I also enjoy spending time outside of schools activities with my family and friends, mostly at the beach or shopping.
I believe I am a smart, active player. I am always aware of what is going on in the pool. As a player, I am very talkative and I will push myself to support my team. I will never strive for less than what I am capable of. I always attempt to set people up for great opportunities along with trying to set myself up. I can recognize if my teammate is struggling to cover someone and will call the switch so they can have a break as well. I am looking for a program that will be an excellent fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe I not only have the talent to compete at the next level, but the character work ethic and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program. My goal is to continue to build and improve upon my leadership experience as a college student athlete, with aspirations of becoming a veterinarian. I hope this summarizes my leadership aptitude that I bring with me as a potential collegiate athlete.
