Hello! My name is Sydney Rubin. I currently play for Southlake Carroll High School and on North Texas Thunder Water Polo’s National Travel Team. My goal is to be a student athlete playing collegiate water polo for a university that also offers strong academics.
For years I excelled as a competitive swimmer, and played many team sports including soccer, basketball and volleyball. Once I started playing water polo competitively I was able to pick it up very quickly and really fell in love with the game. After helping my high school team to a 3rd place finish at State in Fall 2022, I joined North Texas Thunder, one of the top programs in Texas. This spring I was selected to play for the ODP SWZ Red Youth team at National Championships.
Although my water polo background is brief, I don’t view that as a disadvantage – my ODP, club and high school coaches are all impressed with my work ethic, coachability and adaptability. They have told me that my ability to pick up the sport and skills so quickly is very impressive. I believe my ODP selection less than a year after I started demonstrates my growth potential.
Academically, I’m an All “A” Honor Roll student and have been taking Honors and AP classes since 7th grade. I’ve been a member of National Junior Honor Society and now National Honor Society, and am a USAWP Academic All-American – Outstanding. In addition to volunteering in my community, I’ve developed leadership skills through school mentoring programs and by being a team captain and overnight camp counselor.
I’m excited about my future in water polo, love the friendships I’ve made in the sport and am fully dedicated to it. I look forward to any collegiate opportunity that allows me to grow and improve as both as an athlete and a student.
