Max Newman '12 Recruiting Profile

I play the game for something more than just winning. When I am out on the field I have fun and at the same time feel focused and free. I listen to what play is called and unconsciously run my route, many times the ball coming my way. As I run for the end zone for 6 points, it's something more than just scoring. To me the touchdown represents achievement for both myself and for my school. I feel proud to represent my school and its success. That is why I love football. Football is a complex sport. There are so many players in various positions who all have to complete their assignments in order for the team to be successful. This makes preparation absolutely key, in each week's practice, in the preseason, and in the off-season. Preparation is both mental and physical especially at the wide receiver position. My quarterback has to have confidence in my routes, confidence I will get open, and confidence that I will stop at nothing to get possession of the passes he throws my way. During one week's Tuesday practice before our rival game this year we were running sprints and I was beating the field by a wide margin. Our coach called out, "Hey Newman, why are you running so hard?" I shouted back between gasps, "Because I want to win this game so bad!" I think this demonstrates my attitude and dedication.
