Personal Statement
Exploring new areas of interest, such as Psychology, and expanding my knowledge in subjects that I love, like History and the works of Shakespeare, excites me. One of my main goals in college involves taking a variety of courses to expand my knowledge base. The exposure to new fields and ways of thinking energizes me; the ability to study abroad would also be a wonderful experience and another goal of mine. I am ready to challenge myself further in all aspects of my life during the next four years whether academically, socially, or athletically. I aspire to take full advantage of the opportunities made available to me through my college or university during the next phase of my academic life. Meeting new people and striving to make an impact on my campus is also important. My high school motto values being a “man for others” and I plan to follow that philosophy throughout my college life. I will find ways to continue with the community service opportunities I have participated in during my high school years. Serving as the leader for many of these service projects has taught me a great deal about working together for the greater whole, just like being a member of the rowing team.
My leadership skills make me an excellent candidate for a college team, even earning awards for my contributions. Experience in leadership training has prepared me to work well with others and gave me the skills that help bring a group together. I know how to encourage and motivate others to push themselves and try to lead by example. My teachers and administrators have continually complimented my character and recently selected me to represent our school at a special reception with Pope Francis during his visit to Washington, DC. Training hard and never giving up during a race or event makes me a stand out from other recruits. A strong work ethic keeps me focused on striving to improve my strength, form, and endurance. Academically I am constantly improving and challenging myself. I have not reached my full potential academically or athletically and look forward to improving on both areas in college.
