Personal Statement
The point in my career as a soccer player that changed the way I go about competing was when one of my closest friends was killed in a car accident. I got the news about two weeks before I was to begin training for the first time with the Bethesda-Olney Soccer Academy (BOSA). Before I got the news I had no worries and wasn’t nervous at all about training with the new team. I had competed in numerous high pressure situations and was used to it. As the captain of my previous team, Braddock Road Elite, I led my team in a comeback victory scoring two of the three goals in State Cup and later led my team to win State Cup and Regionals. This is only one example of many instances where I had been put on the spot and expected to perform, but training with BOSA was different. It was my first time training with the team, and was during one of the most difficult times in my life. Eventually though I rose to be a starter in almost every game of the spring season for the team. This experience taught me how to deal with immense amounts of stress and still perform well, not only in soccer, but in school and life as well.
I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I value my education just as much as the athletic experiences I hope to be a part of. I believe that not only can I compete, but I can excel in the right college program based on my character, determination, and leadership skills I have gained over the years. As a person who is no stranger to adversity, I know that I will have an immediate impact on your team.
