Personal Statement
I was born and raised in El Salvador until I was 12 years old. Ever since I came to this country I got involved in Swimming because it was hard for me to make friends since English was not my dominant language. I started swimming for Oakland Tsunami my freshman year in high school and since the day I joined, I knew that I NEEDED to make swimming part of my life. I've developed to become one of the best distance swimmers in my team. Representing my high school, I started as JV but moved on to Varsity after the first meet. I broke the 5:45.17 record to 5:40.18, on the 500 free. Also, I'm usually the anchor on the 4x50 Medley, 4x50 Freestyle and 4x100 Freestyle Relays in my high school events. Over the summer, I swim for the OPR (Oakland Parks & Recreation) league. I was team captain and MVP this past summer as well as the summer before.
I really wish to become the best I can, and even though, as of now, I've accomplished more of what I would never imagine, my goals continue to grow.
College swimming is definitely not my ultimate dream, I dream of representing my country in international distance events. I think that there is no greater honor than that, and I am convinced that at some point in my life, hopefully very soon, I will accomplish this. Swimming for college would mean more than everything to me because it is doing what I love while getting an education.
