Personal Statement
My name is Justin Mars. I am currently a Junior at Rockwood Summit High School in Fenton, Missouri. My academic aspiration is to study Biochemistry in college with a goal of getting into this field after graduation. I am currently enrolled in three AP classes (English Literature, US/World Government, and Chemistry) as well as pre-calculus, physics, and band. I plan on taking the PSAT and ACT this year to prepare for my senior year and beyond.
In regards to swimming, it has been my passion for the last 10 years. I started club swimming at the age of 12 with the Rockwood Swim Club here is St. Louis. I recently moved to the Flyers Aquatic Swim Team (FAST) in 2012 and have truly enjoyed the atmosphere and coaching by both my head coach Jim Haliburton and my level coach Ian Cross. I am a mid-distance swimmer specializing in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and the 200 and 400 individual medleys. My highlight to date was swimming at the National Club Swimming Association’s Junior National meet this year in Indianapolis. The competitive atmosphere and the depth of swimming was amazing at the meet.
My dream is to combine both my academic and swimming passions and excel in both the classroom as well as the pool. Being on a college swim team is a goal I want to accomplish along with a solid academic major.
