Collin Shanks '22 Recruiting Profile

Hello! My name is Collin Shanks, and I am a senior at Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio.  In college, I am looking to run both cross country and track.  I love distance running, and I would like to continue competing at a higher level throughout my college career.  In competing at the collegiate level, I hope to really explore different racing distances, particularly the 8k and 10k.  I also value academics.  In college, I plan on majoring in aerospace engineering; I have a passion for space exploration.  It is of utmost importance to me that I am able to pursue this path in college.  One thing that I pride myself in being, is driven.  I've truly learned over the past couple of years that if I really want to achieve my goals, I really have to put in hard, tangible work.  I've really applied this over the last year in both cross country and track.  I've been able to to drop my 5k time by 92 seconds, and my 3200m, by 38 seconds.  There is something to be said about the 'runner's high,' because I don't just want to run in college, I need to. Distance running has become a core component of my identity, and I intend to keep it that way.
