Personal Statement
My name is Mary Catherine, but most people call me MC. I am a dedicated student-athlete, graduate of 2018, and I've set my goals to play softball at a college that will challenge me not only on the field, but also in the classroom. I am a hard-working, committed, coachable player with a good, positive mindset that pushes me to be the best I can be. I am 111% focused and determined in everything I do, on and off the field. I am a team leader and strive to encourage my teammates to be the best they can be as well.
I play travel ball for Florida Elite 16u out of Panama City Beach, FL. I mainly play first base and outfield for my travel ball team, but I also have catching experience. On my high school team, I play first base, outfield, and catcher. Offensively, I am an aggressive, scrappy base running threat, and I am a strong, right side, gap-to-gap hitter.
In the classroom I am just as driven, as I have a 4.3 GPA and a schedule consisting of AP and advanced classes. I am interested in the fields of science and English in pursuing a path for my future, so I am looking for a college that will help me achieve those goals, as academics will always be on my top list of priorities.
When I'm not playing softball, I lead my high school's varsity golf team. I was named Captain and MVP as a freshman and lead them to a successful 2014 season. Also, I qualified individually to play in the State Regional tournament. Sophomore year I lead my team to a great season as well, and we successfully qualified as a team for Regionals. Junior year, I also lead the team to another Regional appearance. Along with golf, I am a goalkeeeper on my varsity soccer team, helping my team advance to the Regional tournament my freshman, sophomore, and junior year.
I know I can contribute to any college I attend because I can accept, adapt, and conquer any challenges I face. I have faced injury, defeat, and failure, but I always keep my head held high and smile at the end of the day because I know I will overcome whatever it is and be a better player than I was before.
