Personal Statement

I was raised in a household of athletes.  My mom played college softball and my dad played college and professional baseball.  I think the passion for athletics in my household has been a big factor towards my own passion.  I knew at a very early age, that I did not want to dance, cheer, or do ballet, although I was exposed to all of it.  I was drawn to team sports.  I aspired to be a part of a team, and enjoyed the comradery and the fellowship that my teammates and I had together.

As I look back on the beginning of my athletic career, those years were fun, however, not everyone on the team seemed to play with the competitiveness that I possessed.  So through my youth, I was in search of a team that had the same passion, competitiveness, and work ethics. This pushed me harder to reach the goals that I had established for myself.  Passion breeds passion and competition breed’s excellence.

I currently play the Texas Storm 18U Gold-Wymer.  I have been playing for Coach Wymer since I was in 8th grade (Jersey #00).  Playing with the older players that were closer to their college dreams,  really put what I needed to do and how I needed to perform, in perspective.  I know I am a different person and player now that I am older.  Not only am I physically bigger, but I am mentally more mature and more aware of what it means and how import it is to not only be a great player, but to be a great teammate. For example, before we start practice, Coach Wymer always starts out having us run a mile under 8 minutes.  One Sunday morning, I remember crossing the finish line, in  2nd place, way under the 8 minute mark, but as I turned around, I did not see my freshman teammate anywhere in sight.  As I left the team standing at the finish line, I ran back to where my freshman teammate was running. She was really struggling to finish, but she smiled when she saw that I was going to finish the race with her.  We both crossed the finish line with the rest of the team cheering her on.  This one small gesture changed me to the player and teammate I am today.

Although I have not decided on a major yet, I do know I want to play softball while working on a degree. I was a multi-sport athlete, making all the school’s newspaper write-ups, until my freshmen year in high school when I decided to focus on the one sport that I love, softball. Which brings me to where I am at today.  My High School goals are to maintain a 3.4 GPA or better, to take and score high on the SAT or ACT, to make 1st team All-District for the next 3 years of High School softball, and to maintain the All-Academic Achievement award.

I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on any softball program. I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on any team!
