Personal Statement
When I was growing up, there wasn't a youth lacrosse program for girls in my area until fifth grade. Truth be told, I started playing because my friends played. Now I find myself playing more than most of them. I started playing at defense, but always found myself enamored with the goalie position and the fearless way they attack the ball. I easily became nervous as a kid, but lacrosse was the one sport where I felt that I could let loose and go for it. The sport was so new that I felt like I was writing the script instead of reading it. Lacrosse built up my confidence and opened the world up to me.
In everything I do, I strive to compete my hardest and perform at my best. In my junior year, I sustained a concussion in hockey that kept me out of all but five lacrosse games. For the first time in years, I felt helpless and scared. I wasn't meeting the marks I'd set for myself in school and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to play up to the standard I'd set for myself. Following the concussion, I was able to pull my grades up. My effort in practices was rewarded with a win for my first game back. I continued to improve and when summer came around, I played some of my best lacrosse yet. I look forward to competing at the collegiate level and playing my best lacrosse ever.
