My name is Elizabeth Harris and I am a dedicated athlete. I was a swimmer for 8 years while running for fun. My freshman year, my coach walked up to me and said “Hey! You’re short and scrawny, you’d be great at cross country!” I was too scared to say no and I’m glad I didn’t. I fell in love with running and decided this was what I wanted to focus on. At the end of my first season, my PR was 30:54. In my junior year, my time is down to 23:20.
The baccalaureate program requires sophomores to complete a personal project while learning to do something on our own. I’m not scared of a challenge and had never run more than a 5K, so I decided to do the Disney Princess Challenge. I ran a 5K, 10k and a half marathon in 3 days. While maintaining a rigorous course load, I still find time to run for fun outside of school. I do several local 5K events around town. I won my division in the Red Shoe Run for Ronald McDonald House in 2023. As an IB student and an athlete, there's a lot to balance. I have successfully maintained a 3.6 GPA while being in various clubs, student councils, volunteering frequently and being a runner. Academics are very important to me.
I love to stay in shape outside of cross country season, so I am on the indoor and outdoor track teams for my school. I typically run the 4x800m, 800m, 1600m and occasionally the 3200m. I even went outside my comfort zone and picked up a leg of the 4x400m recently to help my team when an injury arose.
I’m a very hard worker that loves a challenge given to me by my coaches, teachers or teammates. In an effort to continue improving, I started working with a personal trainer to increase my strength and form. I try to meet with him consistently, even more so during breaks and off periods of practice in order to not only stay in shape but also to improve.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I can’t wait to see what I can do in the future. I’m open to wherever the right cross country and track opportunity may be for me!
