Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Tyasia McGruder, and I aspire to play collegiate volleyball at a university that betters me as an athlete, student, and person. Being a part of a successful high school program and a few different club programs, I have been a part of many successes and many situations where my team has fallen short of a goal. While the successes have driven me to be competitive and hold high expectations of myself and my team, the failures have taught me so many more lessons.
Losing a heartbreaking match in the semi-finals of the state playoffs during the 2015 school year was a pivotal moment in my volleyball career. Injured and unable to play, I had to learn to be an influential teammate in a tight match from the bench. Being one of four players returning from that loss, I have had to bring leadership, intensity, and composure to every match from that point on. I have learned how crucial it is to have a short-term memory and the importance of appreciating every moment I am given the opportunity to step on the court.
