Personal Statement

My goal upon graduating from college is to work in an area dealing with sports medicine, nursing or kinesiology. Sports has always been a major part of my life; as an athlete I know from experience how sports related injuries could negatively affect someone’s future, if planning to play at the collegiate level.

After graduating high school, I plan to attend a four year university to gain a Bachelor’s degree in sports medicine, kinesiology, or nursing. With a degree in one of the three professions I hope to have the opportunity to work with young athletes and teach them techniques that will help them avoid sports related injuries and serve as a role model to those who want to pursue a life as a student athlete and play at the collegiate level.

I am applying to multiple four year universities in Hawai’i and the west and east coast. I have always attended small schools and it has always been one of my dreams to attend a big college and experience the life and environment of a big campus and an extensive class size.

Although this is my dream, I have to put my goal at the top of my list. Sports medicine, kinesiology and nursing is a growing field, but not many big schools offer it as a Bachelor’s degree. I want to apply to many big universities but I have to take into account the fact that not many have my major. In my eyes, my education is my primary concern.

While applying, my main concern is gaining admission to a college that provides this degree program as a freshman so I won't have to transfer schools later on. I am focused on schools in the mainland because I know there is a lot of opportunity the mainland can offer; I understand that i might not be financially feasible for my family so as my safety schools I am also applying to schools in Hawai`i so that I have the opportunity to stay home if my family is not financially sound with my tuition.
