Personal Statement
My name is Lindsey Ng and I am currently in my senior year at Moanalua High School located in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have played on my high school varsity team as a libero/defensive specialist since my sophomore year. I am also a libero for Ka Ulukoa (18 - Black) Volleyball Institute.
My journey in volleyball has not been an easy one. You see, I am only 5’0 playing a sport that is largely based on height. I had a choice of continuing playing volleyball or softball. It was a hard decision but I chose the sport I loved the most, volleyball. Although I knew I would be at a huge disadvantage because of my height, I loved volleyball too much to give it up. Understanding that my height was something I had no control over, I knew that I did have control over how hard I worked on and off the court. On the court, I always try my best to listen and execute what my coach asks of me, be the best teammate I can be and give 100 percent all the time. Off the court, I do my best in the classroom and to give back to my community. I believe that athletics and academics go hand in hand. If you perform well in your chosen sport, you perform well in the classroom. That’s what I have believed and experienced for as long as I can remember.
My goals after graduating from high school are to attend a great college/university with a sports or business management degree, continue playing volleyball at the collegiate level and graduate in four years.
Thank you for your time and am looking forward to talking with you in the near future.
