Personal Statement
My name is Hannah Boone of proud Hispanic and Native American Heritage . I am looking for a college with an academic program that I can work on achieving the requirements relating to earning my PA degree, as well as continue to pursue my love of volleyball. Although I had a few rough spots in my first two years of high school, my grade point average has improved dramatically, and now I have been focusing much more on academic achievement. During parent teacher conferences, all of my teachers always comment on what a committed hard worker I am.
I started playing volleyball at the age of seven, and quickly realized that I loved the game. At the age of eleven I started playing competitive club volleyball. During my career I have played every position, the last few years the focus has on libero, DS, and setting, although during last years club season, due to injuries, I was utilized as setter and front row positions, playing the entire rotation. I have been the starting libero on both my club and high school teams the past couple years.
Along with playing volleyball, I also coach. I started when I was fourteen at The Volleyball Academy. I started with K-4 camps and for the past two years I have coached my own team of 5th and 6th grade girls. The teams I have coached have won three league titles in the last two years. My strengths as a player are my dedication and hard work, coach ability, team leadership and encouragement. I also refuse to get involved in the occasional team drama. The past four years while playing for River City Juniors, i have also participated in the plyometrics conditioning program, as well as preseason conditioning for high school. During the summer months I also play on a 2 on 2 sand volleyball league at The Volleyball Academy. As you can see, volleyball is a very important part of my life.
Apart from volleyball, the thing I have been most passionate about is going on missions trips to the Rosebud Indian Reservation. Since 2009 I have been a part of the Lakota Journey Missions Team. Every summer we go to the Rosebud Indian Reservation for a week long mission that works directly with the people of the Reservation, and our specific assignment has been the people in Upper Cut Meat. We run a daily program working with the children, as well as doing projects such as building new playgrounds, installing basketball goals and also serving daily meals to the residents of Upper Cut Meat. We also do a two day trip in the fall where we bring a trailer full of clothing that has been donated and we set up a center where the residents can come and pick out the items that their family needs at no cost. We also do a two or three day trip at Christmas where we take Christmas presents that have been purchased specifically for each child in the community and also serve a full Christmas meal. I feel especially connected to the kids there as this is the tribe I am from, and have met some of my relatives on the reservation.
