Personal Statement
My name is Abby Leigh and I go to Padua Franciscan High School in Parma Ohio. I started playing volleyball when I was in fourth grade. I have learned a lot about volleyball from my mom because she played for Padua & in college, then coached in high school for many years. Volleyball has been a huge part of my life. My main position is middle hitter, but I’ve also played right side, outside and setter in the past. During my volleyball career, my coaches and teammates have said I am very nice on the court and I always have a positive attitude. I listen to my coaches for ways to improve my game and I am willing to put in the work to become a better player. I love playing on a high-level team because I enjoy stepping up to the challenge. For my sophomore year in high school, I had to replace our injured senior middle hitter who was a 3 year varsity starter. I earned the starting position in the pre-season, and then we went on to win the Ohio Division 2 state championship. During my sophomore club season, my team qualified for the USA nationals in Minneapolis. For my junior year in high school, I was named a captain and the starting middle position. We then went on to win the conference and repeated as the Ohio Division 2 state champions.
I also take my academics very seriously. I work hard on my grades especially during volleyball season. My average GPA is 3.6 and I take Honors Math and Honors Spanish. In college, I want to study to become a veterinarian. As a player, I have improved becoming louder on the court and helping my teammates out. I would be a very good teammate and I will be open to anything they say. I love the sport of volleyball. This sport has changed my life. I have made many new friends and played for a variety of coaches. Volleyball has taught me to never give up and to always work hard.
