Personal Statement
The most consistent comment about me from adults is that I have an "old soul". I believe that means that I have a good work ethic, mind my manners, and tend to be compassionate. However, "don't let the freckles fool you", I am a passionate competitor on all levels - academically and athletically!
I thrive in a team environment and believe that personal achievment drives me, but "team" achievments produce success. Working collectively and suceeding together are what make volleyball a family. Everyone has a role and if you fulfill your role and lift your teammates up to suceed; then you have given 100%. If you only play for yourself, then you have missed half the experience, and probably more than half the success. Team sports seem to me to be the most like the work environment. There are many cogs in the wheel. If one of cogs is broken, the wheel doesn't move forward.
Academically, it is all about science for me. I maintain a high GPA and take AP courses. My goal is to go into the medical field. Striving to help, heal, and facilitate success with patients feels like a worthy life long challenge. I believe in the Rotary International 4 way test and hope to embrace the service above self attitude of a rotarian.
My proudest accomplishments are being selected by my teachers to receive the American Legion Award for Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship, and Service. Most recently, I have the honor of being selected to attend the International Youth Leadership Conference in Belgium 2016 and to be selected to be a member of the New Braunfels Youth Leadership program for 2015/2016. I just completed being a Girl's State Citizen at the American Legion Bluebonnet Girls State Camp, it profoundly changed me for the better.
Always Prepared,
Cailey Young
