Personal Statement
Being at the ball field has always been a part of my life. Before I could play I was at the ball field watching my mom and sisters play ball. I started playing t-ball at the age of three and have been playing ball ever since. With my family being athletic and involved with several sports, I was naturally drawn into them also.
There are several factors in my life that have influenced me to be the person I am today. My family for one is a big influence. My parents had and still have rules set in place that must be followed. They are hard workers, and loving, and caring people. I have wonderful grandparents that are a big part of my life and a wonderful aunt that has cerebral palsy. Having a disabled aunt, has shown me compassion, and understanding of others. Being an athlete has definitely had an influence on the kind of person I am. It has helped me become a team player, but work on my individual strengths as well. I have learned to have control over a situation instead of the situation taking control of me. However, the biggest influence I have received and that has molded me into a better person was the day I gave my life to God. I was at church camp in 2015 when I accepted the Lord into my life. Since this day I have grown spiritually, and have matured a lot. All these things together have made me into the person I am today.
Being involved with multiple sports I have learned that I am a strong leader. I am able to control my nerves during difficult situations. I am honest and dependable. I can keep a level head and I have good sportsmanship. I have also learned to stay humble during times I could boast when I have been acknowledged for high awards.
My ability to control my nerves during stressful situations is a characteristic I have always had. I can calm myself to step up and get control of situations that others may struggle with. This has helped me a great deal while pitching. Coaches have brought me in to pitch when bases were loaded, no outs, the winning run was on third base, and I was able to pull us through. I am a strong pitcher, while my speed is still improving, my accuracy is really good.
The biggest obstacle I have had to overcome was in October 2014. I was playing in a football game and had a knee injury that put me out of sports for a year. I tore my acl, mcl, and menicus in my knee where I had to have surgery to repair it all. This was the hardest time of my athletic career. Sitting on the sidelines and not being able to participate was very hard to do. I worked hard and pushed myself to come back stronger than before. It paid off. I was able to come back strong and play basketball for my school where I was the only one on the team that was named to the 5A All Conference Team.
My academic goals in high school are to be a successful student and make the best grades I can while learning all I can. I would like to be able to get academic scholarships along with athletic ones. I want to continue my academic goals in college as well. Right now, I am looking at going into the field to become a physical therapist.
