Personal Statement
I am an athletic, 5’10, 160 lb., centerfielder, currently clocked with a 6.79 60 yard dash. I was the captain of my JV baseball team at Saint Francis High School, Mountain View.
I am also a hard-working student with a 3.48 gpa. I attend a well-known and highly regarded high school in a Silicon Valley suburb now, but I was born and raised in San Francisco and I am a proud product of public school from kindergarten to eighth grade.
Throughout those early years I grew used to being at the top of my class and the best on the field at all times. When it was time to choose a high school, I had options. I could enroll in the public school that I always imagined I would go to, or I could embrace a new challenge and attend a perennial elite baseball institution, Saint Francis High School. I chose the latter. This decision has been both the biggest challenge, as well as the best part of my life, so far.
In my urban public school context, I experienced being the star for the first 13 years of my life. But at Saint Francis, there were times where I didn’t touch the field my freshman year. I believe this taught me to become a better and more humble teammate, while also pushing me to become a better player myself. My sophomore year I came back and I started every game and was named a captain of my JV team. I earned the honor of being called up to Varsity and I experienced a CCS Championship victory.
I was given an opportunity to play at a top-tier high school program and I took it. I pushed through a major transition from urban schools to an elite private, suburban school. For the first time in my life, I struggled through limited playing time. I was challenged by the new academic expectations of high school in general, but also by the high expectations of Saint Francis High School. If given the opportunity to go back in time and offered the option to pick again, I would make the same decision.
My goal has always been to play baseball at the next level. I am committed. I am disciplined. And I will continue to work hard to maximize any and all opportunities to further my academic and athletic development.
