Matthew Garrison '25 Recruiting Profile

I have been playing baseball since the age of six, not knowing or realizing that I would accomplish as much as I have in this sport. My love for baseball is strong because it is a sport that cannot be faked. You are either doing good or bad. It is a sport that tests your ability to stay working hard and deal with trials and tribulations and adversity. This is a sport where you can meet many different people, make friends, and develop a special and unique connection with your coaches and teammates. My varsity baseball coach introduced an ancient Pali and Sanskrit word to our team that I’ll never forget: “Mudita,” which means to be happy for someone else’s success despite not being your own. I utilize that concept daily and apply it to all aspects of my life, especially on the field. I am a good candidate for your team because I am very receptive to coach suggestions and recognize how to do my part in helping the team. In addition, I can stay in the middle and not get too high or low when things do or do not go my way when on the mound. I am quick to listen, slow to speak, and very receptive to a coach’s advice and tips, and will always in some way try to put it into practice. My collegiate goals and aspirations are to obtain a degree in an aviation-related career or sports medicine.
