Most three year old children sleep with their stuffed animals. However, I slept with my bat and glove, and that is where my love for baseball has started.
Baseball has influenced my everyday life and has taught me multiple life lessons, especially one that has affected me the most, leadership.
As the only junior out of the six captains on my school’s varsity team, I have learned about what it means to take initiative. It has been a couple weeks into the season, and my team was on a losing streak. We have been practicing everyday but we still came up too short. Seeing that my teammates were feeling down, I decided to call a team meeting with all the players. Together, we brainstormed ideas and analyzed our previous games of what our strengths and weaknesses were. Not only did this strengthen our bond as a team, but also it made everyone feel that they were an important aspect of the team’s success.
Whether I am on the field or not, I encourage all my teammates to do their best each and every day. My contagious energy hypes up the team and keeps the team’s momentum going.
Of course my dream is to play baseball in the MLB. However, I would like to have my own business and follow in my mom and grandmother. After taking classes about tourism and hospitality and learning about customer service, I have been inspired to learn more about business and the economy. I am surrounded by small business owners such as my mom and grandma and definitely would like to pursue a career in business.
