Personal Statement

My name is Yoon Sung Kim. I was born in Korea, but I spent most of my life in Hong Kong. I am currently a junior at South Island School Hong Kong, and I am at 5'8 and 180 lbs. I put my passion and effort for every baseball that I swing at - whenever I hit in the cages or in a game. After I graduate from high school, my goal is to play baseball in college with a decent academic program. I condition, train and study hard. I also take my academics very seriously.

I am quite different from most people who are trying to play baseball at college because my school does not have a junior varsity or varsity baseball team as my school is a British School. However, I have been very committed to baseball outside school. I first started to play baseball in the Little League, where I would practice and play games every weekend. I currently work with my private coach Dozier Taylor, who continues to help me improve my physical ability and baseball skills. I have represented the Hong Kong Junior All Star Team and the Senior All Star Team in 2014 and 2015, respectively. I was a starting member for both teams - in 2014, I was the starting First Baseman, and in 2015, I was the starting Right Fielder and pitched a few innings during the Asia Pacific Regional Tournament.

What I can offer the team is my leadership and my commitment towards winning games. I was the captain of the Hong Kong Senior All Star Team. I have recently been selected as one of the top 16 players in The Hit Factory Showcase at Singapore. I work hard on the field, in the classroom and in the weight room. I am passionate about my future; my goal is to play high level baseball, while also pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences. This would help me pursue a career in the technology industry.
