Personal Statement
Baseball has impacted my life in amazing ways, both on and off the field. I have made some of my best friends through the sport, and created lasting memories, which is what motivates me to continue to pursue my dream of playing baseball in college. My earliest memory of baseball is our town's little league home run derby, in which I hit zero home runs. As a young child, this had a lasting effect on me. The very next day my dad and I went out, and he bought me a brand new bat. Ever since then, the sport has been so valuable to me. I think it has taught me many things that I can apply to outside of baseball, whether it be learning to make adjustments when I am struggling, or to pick up others when they aren’t performing the way they want to. I believe these characteristics are very important and have allowed me to grow into the player and student I am today.
The earlier failure of the home run derby has since been overcome, as in the next two years I finished second in the home run derby. In that second year, our town's travel team won the championship against a close rival, and in that game I hit a home run to help put us on top. A few years later, the year prior to high school, my club team also won our league championship. More recently, I was awarded All-Tournament Center Fielder in The Columbus Day Bash run by Firecracker Baseball. These are extremely high moments in my life, which I hope to have the ability to recreate further on in college. Along with strong athletic goals, I have strong academic goals to go along with that. I pride myself on my grades, especially in the classes I take, and I push myself to continue to have good grades in college, where I hope to maintain my idea of myself as a student athlete.
