My name is Richard Hayes and going to college to play baseball has always been a dream of mine. I have been playing baseball since I was five years old. Starting with t-ball and working my way up to travel ball and eventually High School. The Men's college world is played in my hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. After attending my first CWS game, I thought to myself, "I want to be here someday". Ever since that moment I have worked my hardest to work towards the goal of playing at a collegiate level.
Like my sister, I started out my baseball career as a catcher. I convinced my parents to try pitching and fell in love with it. As a pitcher I learned to control my emotions and to be mentally tough. I also communicate with my team mates when I am on the mound. As a second and third baseman I have learned how to field different kinds of balls that are hit. I have played on different baseball teams with different coaches for each team. I am coach-able and willing to make adjustments in order to become a better baseball player.
I train year round for baseball with my hitting and pitching coaches. I currently play for my High School team Platte Valley Patriots. Where I earned a spot in the Varsity bull-pen and playing third base on the J.V. team. I also play with a travel team Gretna Thunder Green 14U. With the Thunder we play games year round. At 10 years old I was playing on an 11U team. I have always played up an age during my baseball career. Playing on a older team I feel has help me prepare for college baseball. The winter is our off time however, I still schedule hitting and pitching lessons/workouts.
In the classroom I work equally as hard. I know how much my future relies on my grades and focus in the classroom.
I would like to attend a college where I am able to push myself athletically and academically. I would like to study Interior Design, but that might change by the time I attend college. I want to be successful to accomplish the goals that I have had for a long time and to also make my family proud.
