Coach Reference Letter:
Nick has played for me at the high school and American legion baseball level for the past three seasons. During that time I have seen Nick continue to grow and develop year over year as a defensively skilled first baseman and a player with significant offensive power. Nick has great bat speed coupled with terrific hand eye coordination which results in being a high contact hitter who doesn’t strike out much and remains disciplined at the plate. Nick can draw walks just as much as he can hit for power to all fields. Most kid’s Nick’s size tend to be pull hitters and ones who do not make strong and accurate contact but Nicks has power to all fields and typically stay to the middle and middle left parts of the park as a right handed hitter. Nick’s splits over the past two seasons of high school baseball for me are as follows; .471 average (33 for 70), a .591 on base percentage (55 for 93) and a .657 slugging percentage (46 total bases in 70 appearances). Nick has shown growth over the past two seasons and has increased his RBI, Walk, Hit and average totals in his time with me while maintaining his good plate habits like balance, contact and hitting to all fields. His defensive ability has shown that he can cover a good amount of ground at first base and has good glove control for defensive purposes. His arm has strengthened over time but continues to be an area of opportunity for him to improve on. Nick is a great student of the game, asks for a received feedback well and has shown the interest and ability to play at the next level after high school.
Mike Moody
Goffstown Baseball Coach
I have personally known Nick for over 4 years and have had the pleasure of coaching him on a 14U Travel Baseball team for the New England Blackhawks playing in the New England Elite Baseball League and also at the High School level in a competitive fall ball program.
Nick’s love and dedication to baseball is clearly evident by virtue of his disciplined work ethic and commitment to training and developing his skills in every phase of the game. In the off season, Nick is often found inside local baseball indoor training facilities working on his hitting, fielding and strength and conditioning. This hard work has certainly paid off for Nick as he continues to demonstrate a prolific ability to make hard contact with his bat and flash gold glove defense with his soft hands.
Nick’s sound batting mechanics has provided him with a level of patience and discipline at the plate enabling him to hit to all fields with power.
The 14U team that I had the pleasure to coach Nick in 2015 ultimately won a New England Championship and Nick’s efforts contributed greatly to the team’s success. Nick batted fourth the entire season and led the team in hits, batting average and RBI’s. Nick was a unanimous choice for the All Star Game and batted fourth and hit the game winning homerun and was also unanimously selected as the Game’s Most Valuable Player.
Since our first meeting until the present, I have enjoyed several opportunities to coach Nick and he has never let me down on and off of the field. He loves the game and has developed a keen sense of its strategy and uses this to his advantage.
As a coach and former player, Nick Labrie is the type of person and player that every coach wants on his team. Nick is also well known for his great personality, sense of humor and commitment to his team. He is respected by his peers, coaches and family as he continues to be a role model of leadership on the field and in the dugout.
