- AwardsThe Effect of Brassica nigra and Ocimum basilicum on the Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide Awarded “High Honors” at Long Island Science Congress: Senior Division Science Fair I was awarded for my research alongside Lillia Kirkwood (Manhasset 2021), under the supervision of Ms. Alison Huenger (Manhasset Science Research Teacher). The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of small household plants on the concentration of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) to determine if carbon dioxide sequestration was an effective method of fighting climate change. We recorded the change in concentration of carbon dioxide to record the effect of the small household plants (Ocimum basilicum and Brassica nigra) on carbon dioxide concentration in an enclosed system. Via statistical analysis, through IBM SPSS Version 24, a Post-Hoc Scheffe was run with a p-value < 0.05, the effect of the household plants were found to be statistically significant and effective.
