Baseball has been my focus in life since I was 7 years old. I began with a recreational league in Plano, TX moving up to a Semi-Travel ball league by the time I was 9 then we moved to Oklahoma in October 2017.
The rural area we moved to, Holdenville, OK, didn't have as many options for baseball that Plano did. I played with a recreational summer league, The Hornets, as well as the Moss Public School baseball program. Being in such a small, rural town gave me the opportunity to play up from Grade School level to the Junior High level due to the lack of players needed to form a team.
By the time I was 12 my parents divorced, and I followed my mom to the McAlester, OK area. My enrollment in Tannehill School allowed me to play on their ORES team that allowed grades 4th-8th to play. This is when I saw my opportunity to step up as a leader & help the less experienced teammates with a few fundamentals.
Once I graduated 8th grade at Tannehill I moved to Stuart Public School and looked forward to joining their OSSAA baseball ranks. I played in both Junior Varsity and Varsity games during my Freshman and Sophomore years as a Right Fielder and backup Catcher. There were a few Junior Varsity games that allowed me to enjoy the pitching mound as well.
As my Junior year begins I am currently maintaining my position on the Varsity team as their Right Fielder and back up Pitcher but I have also been played in almost every position the field has to offer. When needed I have been put in as Second Base, Third Base, Catcher, Center Field, and Left Field. Coach Williams and I continue to focus on my submarine pitching style to help the team advance in the OSSAA ranks and hopefully help me obtain a college scholarship. I have to say submarine pitching is one of my favorite things to practice but I also love rallying my team into good spirits and getting them pumped before, during, and after a game! Although being involved in a team can be challenging, my upbeat and positive attitude helps the team’s energy to endure throughout any challenge!
Needless to say, I have loved the game since I was 7! I am always ready to pick somebody up when they are feeling down, love to practice baseball any time of day or night, and strive to make my coach proud. Even with all of the scheduling that baseball can require, I ensure that I make time for God, because without him I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Summer of 2023 I worked at my dad’s business learning the art of HVAC. I was responsible for running service calls, system and duct installation, property management, and parts pick up. I plan on continuing my HVAC education with the Kiamichi Technology Center enrollment Fall 2023. This job and enrollment will help me obtain my goal of becoming an HVAC business owner one day. I am also keeping open mind and am looking into Business Agriculture to follow in the footsteps of my sister and maternal family history of cattle ranching.
To summarize: “Baseball is life” is my motto, I thrive for greatness, am always willing to work hard on and off the field, praise God for everything in my life, and choose kindness in a world that seems to lack humility.
I am Wyatt Clayton and this is just a peak into my story. ;)
