My name is Jack Millin and I am a class of 2023 catcher out of McAllen, Texas. I would be a great fit for any program that values a very strong work ethic because that is the main quality that my parents have instilled in me. With their support, I have developed an incomparable desire to be among the best catchers in my class, with the best grades possible. My mom and dad are both leaders in my community and I have followed their example to be a leader on my team and in my school. I promise you, no one will work harder to be part of a successful baseball program with excellent coaches who want to win.
As far as my stats go, as of last Summer, I have a 1.85 pop time, a 93 exit velo, and I run a 6.8 60 yard dash. My high school season wrapped up in early May after a run in the playoffs in a very competitive Texas District 31-5A. My stats for this season are as follows: I hit .426, (40-94) through 35 games, with .638 SLG, .534 OBP, 1.173 OPS, 9 doubles, 4 triples and a home run. My coaches awarded me "Offensive Player of the Year" and my teammates voted me "Mr. Hustle." I was 2nd Team All District Catcher and RGVSports.com All-Area Honorable Mention Catcher.
I work as hard at school as I do on the field. As of December 2021, I have a 105.87 GPA, rank 23 out of 442 in my class, and I scored a 1300 on the SAT that I took for the first time on December 4, 2021. I earned a 4 on my AP World History exam last school year (the only AP class available to Sophomores) and in the '22-'23 school year, I completed 4 AP classes, all of which I earned A's for the year. I earned 4 in AP Language and Composition and a 3 in AP Seminar. I earned the AP Scholar Award and the AP National Hispanic Recognition Award for my grades and SAT score.
I understand how important it is to balance my time as a student athlete. I do not waste time. When not studying or playing baseball, I have a few hobbies that I enjoy. I took guitar lessons as a child but then picked it back up during the pandemic and taught myself countless songs by watching YouTube videos and practicing. I also spent 9 years working towards earning my black belt in karate. I attribute my strong balance and discipline to my years working towards that goal. I especially love to be outdoors fishing and hunting. I developed a passion for both by spending time with my grandfather, my dad and my uncles, who taught me everything I know about these sports and how to participate in them responsibly.
As a freshman and sophomore, I played quarterback on my high school football team. I loved it and learned a lot, but I chose to focus exclusively on baseball this past year because I lost time during the pandemic. Playing baseball at the highest level possible at a great academic school is my main priority.
