My name is Nathan Buchan, and I am a good candidate for your team because I love baseball. I have been playing since age 4 on Little League teams, and started selects and club at age 8. I throw and bat left handed but I did not start that way. I was swinging a bat since age 2, before I could write. My parents taught me right handed so I played that way until age 8, when I switched to lefty batting when a coached encouraged me. I am very coachable because I trust that my coaches can make me better. I am now able to correct some of my mistakes on my own after listening to coaches over the years. I have been told I have a high baseball IQ because when I watch games, I try to predict the next play/pitch/outcome. I also love the strategy of the game. As an outfielder I am able to get a good read off the bat, and track the ball to get behind it rather than drifting to the ball. As batter I like to put the ball in play, and have a low strike out rate. I am a lefty pitcher who can hit my spots and have great off-speed. Academically, I attend one of the best public schools in the state, Mercer Island High School, that also happens to have a great baseball program. I was able to raise my GPA to 3.33 this past semester, despite the academic rigors and a busy sport schedule of football and basketball in addition to year around baseball. Although I play other sports, my focus is baseball. I will likely drop down to 2 sports this coming year (sophomore year) to allow me to focus more on the balance between sports and school. Thank you for reading this and I hope this was informative. Come watch me play. My schedule is attached.
