Hi, my name is Jasmin Fields-Robinson and I am eager to continue my education and cheerleading experience in college. I have always been goal-oriented, having very specific aspirations for myself. For example, I have wanted to be an anesthesiologist since I was young, and am determined to reach that goal. Once I set goals for myself I do everything I can to achieve them. I am also extremely hard-working, as I like pushing myself to achieve the goals I set. In all honesty, I would have never imagined myself cheerleading in college. I started cheerleading on my high school’s varsity team as a freshman in high school, but when a new coach and cheerleading program was introduced to my school when I was in my sophomore year, that’s when I realized my true love and ability for the sport. When I first began cheering, I wasn’t able to do the things that I saw a lot of other teams in my division doing. While this realization disappointed me, it also gave me determination to improve. I started training more and more, setting specific goals for myself and being proud when I saw results. Within one year, I went from not being able to tumble at all to being able to do a round off layout. I was also promoted to being the captain on my team, as I demonstrate leadership skills and a true devotion to cheerleading. I am punctual, only miss practice if there is an emergency, and take what I’m doing seriously. Most importantly, I have good relationships with my teammates. I am very social and try my best to create connections with the people on my team, and team-bonding is important to me. I also try my best to help my teammates learn and understand things, and I am usually the person they come to with questions. I have also participated in and continue to participate in cheerleading camps and clinics for children, where I am able to showcase my teaching and leadership skills further. Along with teaching and leading, I am extremely teachable. Due to lack of participation and commitment on my team last year, I had to fill in for different positions frequently, only having a week to learn the entire routine as a different stunt position before competitions. Because of my ability to adapt and change, I was awarded the “Most Versatile” award by my coach. As for my determination, it does not only occur in cheerleading. I live my life with motivation and purpose, trying to make everything I do assist in helping me achieve a common goal. Academically, this shows through the rigorous courses I choose for myself, as I like to push myself to reach new goals in school as well. Though these classes are difficult, I have managed to maintain a 4.0 gpa throughout my freshman and junior years, and a 3.8 gpa in my sophomore year. This led to me receiving Academic All-County Cheerleading Awards in both my sophomore and junior years. Wherever I end up, I know I will be hard-working, teachable, flexible, and determined because that’s how I am as a person. I enjoy achieving my goals, and will never stop working to achieve them.
