My name is Anika Poirier-Barnes, I am 15 years old and attend Alberni district secondary school, Port Alberni, British Columbia. I currently play a year up in the U18 division. I play both midfield and defence. And I hope to attend a four year college and the play on a D1 field hockey team.
I am often described as a thoughtful dependable and sporty person. My coaches say that I’m an assertive, technical and perseverant team player.
Alongside field hockey another one of my passions is ice hockey. I’ve played co-ed ice hockey for nine years. I find that’s with my background from other sports it lets me bring a new poing of view to the game and having no hesitation to go for the ball, set up plays and take chances when I see them.
I believe that having opportunities to work and play alongside with new groupes and being able to help them become the athlete they aspire to be is by far my favourite part.
I am always over joyed when I get the chance to work with younger players and getting to watch them grow. I don’t think they réalisé how much they help me improve as a player and keep me humble by reminding me where I started. For that I am forever grateful.
Thank you for taking time to learn a bit about me. It is greatly appreciated.
