My name is Matt Lawler and I am a junior at Ramona High School in San Diego County. My entire life I have tried to be the best at everything I do, whether it is academics or sports. I have worked hard and have been fortunate to have had a lot of success in both.
Academically, I have a 4.2 GPA and am ranked in the top 10% of my high school class. My classes have been very challenging; many of them are honors classes and AP classes. I have not yet decided on what my major will be in college, but it is important to me to attend a college with an excellent academic reputation.
My junior season was only my second season of organized football. Despite being a latecomer to football, I had a very successful season, recording 10 catches for 117 yards and one touchdown in a run-oriented offense. On many occasions, I threw the key block to spring our running back for a large gain. By the end of the season, I had earned a starting position with the team and expect my senior season to be very successful. More recently, I attended my first combine, the NUC Inland Empire Combine in March 2013. I was named the combine MVP and have been invited to participate at the Ultimate 100 Camp.
In addition to football, I have also played water polo, volleyball, and basketball in high school. I earned varsity letters my freshman and sophomore years in both volleyball and basketball. My sophomore year I was named Palomar League Honorable mention in both volleyball and basketball. This past season in basketball, I was named Valley League All-League 2nd Team and was my team’s captain and season MVP. While I enjoy all sports, football is my passion and it is my dream to play football in college.
