Personal Statement

My name is Landon Law and I developed a love for sports at an early age. I’ve played football. baseball, and basketball as a kid in rec leagues for as long as I can remember.  But my first season of flag football I realized I loved football more than the other sports. I still love to compete and share time with my teammates in other sports but there’s nothing like the feeling of playing football with my teammates.

I’ve had several role models that have impacted my love of sports and helped me be the best I could be. The first of these role models are my parents. My Mom & Dad have provided opportunities for me to play every sport each season, carted me around the southeast for travel baseball and all-star tournaments in basketball and football, signed me up for football and baseball camps and provided lessons with the best coaches in our area to help me grow as a player.  More importantly, they have always been my biggest fans and they support me in all that I do.  I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done for me! My second biggest role model is my high school football coach, Rod Murray. Coach Murray has taught me how to play the game of football and the position of quarterback as well as many of life’s lessons on how to deal with adversity, how to work hard for things and most importantly how important it is to be a Godly man on and off the field. Coach Murray’s confidence in me has helped me become a better player, teammate and even a better young man.

I’ve always been pretty successful in all the sports I’ve played, but it hasn’t always come easy. I’ve had to work hard at practice and on my own in order to excel. Throughout my playing career I’ve won some and lost some, been on good teams and some not so good teams, had individual successes and individual failures. I’ve learned how to deal with adversity as well as success over the years and I know that these experiences will benefit me in the future. Probably the toughest obstacle I’ve experienced in my sports career was this past football season. As a sophomore I came to the varsity as a second-string quarterback behind a three-year starter senior quarterback. My role was to learn the game and get in the games occasionally at quarterback and other positions such as cornerback, safety and special teams. This was very tough for me because I’ve been a starting quarterback in all my previous seasons at every age level. However, being on the sidelines this past season allowed me to learn more than just the plays and the offensive system.  I learned about what it took to be a leader, how to be a better teammate, and how to appreciate the opportunity to play football no matter what position you play. Our team’s efforts were successful this season when we won our region with a 10-2 record and we made it to the semifinals in the state playoffs. Individually my efforts were rewarded when as a sophomore playing these positions that were new to me, I was awarded All-Region Honorable Mention as well as earning player of the game against one of our toughest region opponents.

Academically I am very prepared for my future goals. I realize that my grades are important for anything I want to achieve in the future, especially for my goal of playing football at a collegiate level. My parents have instilled in me a very strong work ethic when it comes to my studies. They expect the best from me and have helped me learn how to study and do my best in every class. Their expectations for me to make good grades have paid off. I have been able to maintain an overall A average every year from elementary school, middle school, and in high school. During my freshmen and sophomore years I’ve maintained this A average while taking honors classes each semester and playing in 4 different sports (football, basketball, baseball and track).

I feel I possess several key characteristics that help me in my school activities and sports. First of all, I feel I’m a quick learner and pretty intelligent.  I can pick up things fairly quickly and know how to study in order to learn new things. Secondly, I’m a hard worker. I work hard in every sport to make sure I’m the best I can be and I work hard with my studies to make sure I make the best grades possible. I also feel like I’m a great teammate. I support my teammates in all that they do and I love it when they are successful. Another unique characteristic is that I’m a twin. My twin brother Luke is my best friend and my closest teammate. We share everything and share many of the same goals when it comes to athletics. This twin relationship has probably helped me more than anything else. My twin is my practice partner, my biggest critic who can tell me the truth about my performance and my biggest fan and I’m his biggest fan as well. I believe we make each other better.
