Hi Coaches,
My name is Richard Federico, I am part of the Class of 2025 at Nanakuli High School. I've been playing football since I was 7 years old. Inspired by my older brother, I fell in love with football. At first, I played football simply, because it was fun. I was good at it and I liked it. But as I got older, I started to understand football. I understood the Football IQ, the intensity, and the drive. That's what makes it fun!
I was born in Tucson, Arizona. I moved to Hawai'i about 6 years ago, I was adopted to the Federico family when I was 9 months old when my forever parents adopted me. Before them, I was supposed to die the next day if it weren't for them and my older brother. This gave me my middle name: Keolamauloa, which means "Salvation". Looking back at that, it drives me to move forward and prove my worth. Prove that anyone and everyone can be successful, no matter how hard their background may be. It's always possible. You just gotta put in that work.
After I moved to Hawai'i, my football career took off. I played Pop Warner football for Nanakuli, as a WR, DE, and OG. We were very short of players so I didn't complain. wherever coach put me is where I perform my best. When it came to High School, my Freshman year was the year COVID 19 came out, so we couldn't afford to have a JV. Fortunately for me, I reached out to the Varsity Coaches and there I was, playing Nanakuli Varsity football as a freshman. I learned that a big key in this sport is Discipline. Discipline has been a big thing in Nanakuli Varsity football, since I've known football. This year, I was asked by one of my coaches, "Why do we play football?, What is our Why and our Drive?". Nanakuli isn't a big school. It's a school that everyone looks down upon, if even seen. The chance of being Successful is Nanakuli is slim. My answer to that question was, "I wanna be a football player, not only for myself, but for my community. Nankuli is known for being at the bottom. So we gotta change that, and I wanna be part of that change. I've loved football my whole life. There's nothing like playing my favorite sport for my favorite community."
After my JROTC instructor said it, I've lived with it forever. he said "There's no such thing as 'I Can't' ". Something that makes me different is my will. My want to play football. My drive. Im willing to do whatever it takes, to get me there. Put me at any position, let me learn it and I promise you to give it my best. "I can do all things through Christ". Im a good team player. Im really chill, and easy to get along with. I like to talk to everyone. Im very social with everyone. I may be shy at first but I don't shy away from giving my best at anything. I run Track & Field, currently still getting better. Im fast, and Im willing to get better. Im sure your(Coaches) coaching abilities could and will get me where I'm supposed to be.
I plan on playing at the collegiate level, in any division. I believe any division could get me where I need to be. I plan to major in Business & marketing. I wanna get my Masters & Financials Degree. Im hoping to be able to play football at the level after College. With complete confidence, that what ever college I go to, the Coaching, teaching, the learning, the players and students, will help me achieve that.
Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it!!
