Personal Statement

I am a small town kid from a blue collar family where a go getter attitude is preached. The person in my household that most influences me is my mom hands down. She pushes me to set goals in life and that is something that I have lived to do. In football I always have goals set out coming into freshman year they were start varsity as a sophomore, be a captain on varisty, win state, win conference, get 1st team all conference both ways of the ball, 1st team all area, 1st team all state, and put myself in a situation to play football after high school. The things that separate me from every other recruit:

  • My work ethic
  • Passion
  • Understanding of the game
  • Respect for Coaches
  • Team first player
  • Try to do good in school

The way my work ethic is different then anyone else is that football is my life. My mom was a single mother for a good part of my child hood so I had to mature with my older brother(Tyler) and sister(Erin) this is when my mom told me that I need to "go capture my dream because it will not come and find me." She knew I wanted to be a football player from the time I was 4. To this day that still gets me through the times I want to quit. I have been told I was too small my freshman year because I came in at 170 so I made it so that is not an excuse. I got told I was not strong enough so I made it so that was not an excuse. In life their are no excuses it is all about the drive in the person and that is what I believe. I am someone who loves the grind in the weight room, the numbness in my arms after a good workout, the tough times you have to go through to be great, and just anything to work hard. I feel with my work ethic I can help any teams. Since I am the youngest kid and my brother was 5 years older than me really made me a pretty scrapey guy. The person who in the NFL that inspires me is J.J. Watt and I follow his quote "success isn't owned, it's leased and rent is due every day."

My Passion for football is through the roof. Football to me is more than a game it is a lifestyle. I totally changed the way I live for it. I am that kid after a lose I will cry because losing is not an option to me. I expect to win in this game and nothing should get in my way of doing it. I have a high motor and when something is not working for me I will change it up and keep at it. I play 110% every play. I love this game and everything that it offers for people who play it.

I feel like I am smarter than most in football mentality. I enjoy the time when we watch film, not just my good plays but the plays where I really messed up. Everyone has room for improvement. I try and take at least 30-45 minutes a night to really study my opponent. I am always calling out the play that they are going to do or watch what is going to come. My favorite when I am playing offense is to watch what they do in their stance in a pass block, down block, counter, and or a base. I want to figure out all of my opponent's strength and weaknesses so I am not surprised at game time.

I am a firm believer in respect. Especially to coaches because of the time they take out of their day to make me better is something that I really can not repay. I am that player that gets upset at a player when they lip a coach because they do not have the right to do that. I would say that my coaches have really put me in the situation to succeed in football. My lifting coach Zack Inskeep really pushes me and makes me do better in the classroom, weight room, and on the field. On the days where I think I can not do any more weight he really pushes me. Also my position coach and Defensive Coordinator Luke Johnston is someone who really embraced me my freshman year and helped me out to get to where I am now. He is the one who will point out everyone of my mistakes even though it ticks me off. But I need that to get better and I respect it. Him and Coach Inskeep were both recruited heavily out of high school and tell me all about their experiences.

I am a firm believer in Team first. The reason why is because no one on the team deserves special treatment because they are better. Everyone is at practice going through the same struggle and working hard to get the same goal as me. I will stick up for any of my teammates that is in a tough situation with a teacher or school bully. I treat them as family, because they are my family away from my home.

I would say I try hard in school even though my GPA is not where I want it. It is from my freshman and sophomore year were I really thought I was invincible and that GPA means nothing. I was obviously wrong and I am paying for it now. I am trying to get it up to a 3.0 or higher by the time I graduate. This is something That I will try very hard in because I do not want to close any doors in my recruiting process.
