My name is Sam Sweetland and my goal is to compete and continue to play the game of football at the college level, while furthering my education. I come from a football family and played for the Springfield Rams since the age of 5. This is where I had wonderful coaches that taught me how to compete at a high level with Respect, Teamwork and Character.
I am entering my Junior Season as the starting QB for the Sacred Heart Griffin High School team in Springfield, Il. I am blessed to play for Coach Ken Leonard and tradition that this program has. I have started as QB for the Freshman and Sophomore teams. I also was the Varsity back up quarterback for the 2016 State Runner-Up State Champions. Playing for a program such as Sacred Heart Griffin who has won 5 State titles in the last decade truly comes from hard work and dedication. One thing that Coach Leonard says and will always stick with me is " That we are our toughest opponent ".
I train with Jeff Christensen at Throw it Deep Academy in Chicago IL. TIT has taught me so much about being a Quarterback with the goal to improve my mechanics, arm strength and reading defenses each visit. I also compete in showcases around the Midwest and 7 on 7 tournamnets throughout the year. I recently won the Illinois EDGYTIM QB Underclassman Skills Challenge Showcase in Chicago. I currently see a personal trainer to improve on speed and strength to help become durable and more of an explosive player.
In college, I plan to major in Architectural Engineering, meeting new people and continuing to be active in faith while competing in the sport I love.
