Personal Statement
After trying several different sports and activities when I was younger it was around middle school I started to realize that football was what interested me the most. That was also the time my family moved us to a new town where I did not know anyone. Being the new kid, along with learning to manage my ADHD, made it difficult for me to put myself out there enough to make friendships that make sports fun. I had trouble fitting in, until I was able to convince my parents to allow me to play tackle football. It was here I started to realize my athletic ability and natural speed. Football taught me how to communicate better, work together and build relationships with my teammates which led me to make the strong friendships and gain the confidence I have today. It also led me to discover and compete in Track and Field at a high level.
One misconception with ADHD is that it is always a lack of attention but in reality it can be a hyper focus on certain items and when realized and used correctly it can be used as a motivational tool to help drive someone to achieve goals. I have learned how to use it to motivate me to put in the hard work during the season and offseason so I can be my best at Football, Track and life. In 2020-21 it lifted me to being named a starter on the varsity football team as a sophomore and took me all the way to the NH State Championships Finals in the 100M sprint.
My goals for my next two years of high school are to continue to get better academically, improve as an athlete and grow as a person. I want to help my football and track teams achieve their goals of winning state championships while positioning myself to achieve my dream of being a college athlete at a high level. I know reaching these goals will take hard work both physically and mentally but I am willing to do both because I know this hard work will help me to be successful in college and give me a great set of skills to take into the rest of my life.
